HAMPSHIRE INTERMEDIATE CUP

LOCKS Heath and Sporting BTC proudly carried the Puma Engineering Hampshire Premier League flag into the last eight of the Hampshire Intermediate Cup this weekend with impressive home victories.

Wessex Combination 1 high-fliers Gosport Borough were soundly thrashed 5-1 by ‘Heath, whilst three-times Hampshire League 2004 champions Mottisfont were beaten 2-0 at Sporting BTC.

Darren Williamson fired Locks’ ahead with a seventh minute penalty after the lively Ash Tattersall had been felled and, although the home side allowed their visitors a sloppy 21st minute equaliser, three quick-fire strikes before the break effectively ended the tie as a contest.

On 28 minutes, man-of-the-match Tattersall ended a mazy 40-yard run with a sweet finish and, two minutes later, Tattersall threaded a precise pass to Lee Chambers who made no mistake.

Tattersall bagged his second and ‘Heath’s fourth after 41 minutes before Williamson also bagged a personal pair with the club’s fifth from Martin Barrett’s through ball on 63 minutes.

Gosport’s day of woe was compounded after 79 minutes when former Locks’ player Barry Snelling was sent off for a second bookable offence.

How Mottisfont must be sick of the sight of Sporting BTC who followed up their 4-2 Southampton Senior Cup success over them in October with a 2-0 Intermediate Cup victory on Saturday.

Sporting took the lead when Matt Edwards bundled home a 15th minute through ball from Richard Luffman and their quarter-final ticket was confirmed two minutes from time as Pete Williams broke from midfield to slot past the keeper.

Although second bottom in the PEHPL table, Sporting BTC have now reached the quarter-finals of three cup competitions this season – the Puma Engineering League Cup as well as the Southampton Senior and Hampshire Intermediate Cups.

PUMA ENGINEERING HAMPSHIRE PREMIER LEAGUE

IT MAY be a New Year but it’s the same old story at the top of the Puma Engineering Hampshire League table with unbeaten leaders Colden Common chalking up another victory – 3-2 over Overton.

A 25-yard pile-driver from Brad Hart past Common’s Under-18 debutant keeper Ashley Douse gave Overton a 16th minute lead but the home side were quickly back on terms thanks to the head of Lee Kelly.

Jason Ahmet rounded off a good move by slotting home on 23 minutes to put Common ahead but Terry Blackburn squared matters at 2-2 before the break. The Commoners’ winner came five minutes after the restart, a Jim Hart free-kick was met by Ollie Forbes who sent a looping header over the visitors’ keeper.

Second-placed Clanfield won their summit meeting with third-placed Otterbourne by the same 3-2 scoreline. Liam Davies (2) and Paul Beasley (2Cool twice gave the Otters a first half advantage with the home side replying courtesy of a fifth minute 30-yard free kick from Ollie Todd.

Luke Pettitt prodded home another equaliser on the hour before Harry Potter crossed for Craig Newman to crash an 81st minute decider high into the roof of the visitors net.
Clanfield - who have played one more game - remain seven points behind Common, while Otterbourne are now 15 points off the pace having played the same number of games as their local rivals.

Better New Year fortunes for bottom side Hamble Club who ended a run of twelve consecutive league defeats by picking up their first point since August in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Fleetlands. After Dan Blake had given the Villagers a fifth minute lead, they fell 3-1 and 4-2 behind as a Scott Hamilton hat trick and Wayne Emery appeared to put the Coptermen in the driving seat. However, strikes from Musa Bayo (55), James Rolph (70) and Grant Paterson (83) rescued happy Hamble a deserved point.

The only other match to survive the frosty conditions saw Team Solent smash QK Southampton 6-1 on their own patch. Two-goal Kyle Nolan (50+70), Ash Stoneman (15), James Grant (25), Nathan Quaye (35) and Ibi Mohammed (55) doing the damage for the six-shooting Students – Nathan Golden grabbed a late consolation for QK.

  Ian Hudson leaves Locks Heath
Posted by GazLHFC @ Mon Dec 29, 2008 4:35 pm
Ian Hudson is leaving us and going to Fleetlands. They approached him and he wants to play 1st team football, which he isn't going to get with us.
It's a shame, but he has said he wants to come back to us in the future.

All we can do is wish him the best.

HARRY Potter weaved some more of his magic with a superbly-taken hat trick as second-placed Clanfield caned Liss Athletic 6-3 at the Norman Collard Playing Fields on Saturday.
After Craig Newman had seen his early effort wiped out by two Andy Neal strikes, Potter squared matters at 2-2 right on half time with a spell-binding 30-yard drive.

The prolific Potter tapped in a Darren Ferguson cross on the hour, Matt Cooke put the visitors 4-2 up some ten minutes later before Potter completed his treble-shooting exploits with a fine solo effort.

Craig Harris pulled another goal back for the home side on 83 minutes but Newman had the final word for Clanfield with his second and the club’s sixth after 88 minutes.
Table-toppers Colden Common ended 2008 still unbeaten this season following their 1-1 draw at local third-placed rivals Otterbourne.

Lee Kelly looked to have given the Commoners’ victory with his 85th minute shot that found the net via the upright only for the Otters to equalise three minutes later through Martin West who crashed home a pull back from Jamie Nash.

Fourth and fifth-placed Stoneham and Paulsgrove maintained their title interest with matching 3-0 victories over QK Southampton and Fleetlands respectively.
James Chalk gave Stoneham a fifth minute lead at QK that they doubled on the half hour mark when James Banks fired home from the penalty spot after Lee Hewitt had been brought down in the area.

Steve Lace wrapped up the points on 85 minutes by smashing home a loose ball in the QK Southampton area.

Paulsgrove moved ahead after 13 minutes in their derby meeting with Fleetlands when Steve Leigh picked out Liam Horsted who turned sharply to shoot in from the edge of the penalty area.

And they doubled their money on 44 minutes when a Fleetlands defender headed over his keeper and into his own net under pressure from Leigh. A delicate 35-yard chip over the visitors’ keeper by Ian Heather clinched the points midway through the second half.

Locks Heath napped rivals Hamble Club 5-1 at their Recreation Ground home. Two goals in a minute during the first half by Carl Wayman and Lee Chambers set Locks on their way with a Ben Chambers brace and an own goal completing their tally. Alwyn Short replied late on for the Villagers.

A Sam Nicholls volley (20) and a sweetly-struck Brad Hart free kick (3Cool twice gave Overton United the lead at home to Headley United who rallied on each occasion to equalise through Glen O’Reilly (27) and George White (44).

Kevin Burt pounced on a loose ball in the Overton penalty area ten minutes into the second half to secure Headley a 3-2 win to lift them out of the bottom three and end a run of four straight defeats.

Lyndhurst and Sporting BTC shared a 1-1 draw at Wellands Road, Peter Hare gave the Foresters a 26th minute with a well-taken solo effort but Nick Turner levelled for the visitors on 70 minutes after being teed-up by Dean Honan.
